What's the difference between a stomp door and an opdek door?

There are two main types of interior doors: stomp doors (stompe deuren) and opdek doors (opdekdeuren).

Stomp door: Fits completely within the door frame and is hung using standard hinges.

Opdek door: Partially covers the door frame (has an overlay edge), so the door surface slightly protrudes and requires special paumelle hinges for installation.

How to determine the door size?

For stomp doors: You can either measure the size of your old door or measure the inside of the door frame (the rebate/sponning measurement). To get the correct door size, subtract 5mm from the rebate measurement.

For opdek doors: Measure the width without the overlay edge and the height including the overlay edge. The method is to take the rebate measurement of the door frame and then add 12mm to the height.

Characteristics of opdek doors

Opdek doors are mainly suitable as interior doors and are not recommended for exterior doors, because part of the door rests on the frame surface and can be easily forced open, making it less secure.
Opdek doors are commonly used with steel interior door frames. Before installation, you must determine the door swing direction, as the special hinges are pre-drilled for a specific orientation.
All interior doors in the DecoDeur range are available in both stomp and opdek versions.

Door swing direction for opdek doors

For opdek doors, it is important to determine the swing direction because the lock hole and paumelle hinge holes are pre-drilled.
To determine the direction, stand on the side from which you pull the door toward you to open it:

If the hinges are on the left, the door is left-hand opening.

If the hinges are on the right, the door is right-hand opening.
