Drawer Structure And Material
Jul 07, 2022
Drawers are an important part of furniture. Cabinets, desks, tables, beds and other furniture often have drawers that can hold things. The structure of an ordinary drawer is generally shown in the figure below. It is a wooden or iron box-like member with a bottom and no cover, which can be pulled out and pushed in.
From the installation form, the drawer can be divided into two types: external cover type and built-in type. The outer cover type means that after the drawer is closed, the drawer panel is located outside the cabinet. This type of drawer has a relatively strong three-dimensional sense, but the manufacturing precision is not high; the inner type means that after the drawer is closed, the drawer panel sinks into the cabinet. In vivo, this form of drawer requires higher machining precision. Therefore, most of the drawers of the furniture on the market currently use the outer cover type. If your furniture uses built-in drawers, then its grade is generally not too low.
The board used for the drawer can be solid wood board or artificial board. In order to save wood resources and reduce material costs, the drawer panels of solid wood furniture are often made of the same wood as the main material, but the side panels, back panels and bottom panels can be selected from lower-grade wood. For example, the drawers of oak furniture, the exposed drawer panels are made of oak, and the other boards can be pine or paulownia.
If your entire drawer is made of the same high-grade solid wood, there is no doubt that it will be a fine piece of furniture. Of course, some "solid wood furniture" that are not very particular may also be made of wood-based panels such as MDF and particleboard combined with solid wood to make drawers.
