He also mentioned that the U.S. is in serious negotiations with the European Union. If the EU agrees to open its market to American businesses, the U.S. will allow them to pay lower tariffs.

Back on July 12, Trump announced that the U.S. would impose a 30% tariff on goods imported from the EU starting August 1, citing that EU tariffs and non-tariff trade barriers have resulted in a large U.S. trade deficit with the EU.

According to a previous report by Xinhua News Agency, German Chancellor Merz revealed on July 18 that the tariff negotiations between the EU and the U.S. had entered the final stage, with both sides still discussing whether to implement differentiated policies for certain industries. On July 23, EU Commission spokesperson Olof Gill stated that if trade talks between the EU and the U.S. break down and the U.S. imposes high tariffs on EU goods, the EU plans to swiftly retaliate by imposing tariffs on nearly €100 billion worth of U.S. goods.
